Britannica Online Learning Zone (PreK-2)

Britannica Learning Zone is an activity-centered learning environment with content and exercises appropriate for young learners in grades PreK-2. An interactive atlas, online art activities, interactive games and learning materials, audio and video, and vocabulary builders teach concepts that children are curious about, such as geography, numbers, time, sounds, and much more. Teacher tools let instructors review and produce reports on student progress.

Britannica Online School Edition (K-12)

Britannica Online School Edition gives teachers and students instant access to four complete encyclopedias that ensure consistency with classroom topics and age-appropriate language. Online learning materials developed by teachers and curriculum experts, as well as a dictionary, thesaurus, Internet guide, and atlas.

Explora for Primary Schools

*Explora is EBSCO’s new user-friendly design that simplifies the search process and creates a friendly user experience for students and public library patrons while also offering teachers and librarians the tools they need to help navigate the content available in the EBSCO databases. Explora for primary schools includes Funk & Wagnall’s New World Encyclopedia, the American Heritage Children’s Dictionary, Primary Search and Topic Overviews K-5.

NoveList K-8 Plus

Adds a non-fiction option to Novelist K-8. Included are recommendations for more than 60,000 fiction and 17,000 nonfiction titles; curriculum-driven material designed to help integrate reading across subject areas in the classroom; recommended Reads reading lists; BookTalks; and Curricular Connection articles on a wide variety of topics, issues and reading levels.

Primary Search

Gathers information on a wide range of general topics for elementary schools and children's reading rooms. Includes a searchable full text of articles, reports and special issues from over 50 of the most popular K-12 magazines. Includes searchable full text for over 100 pamphlet, essential documents in American History and the CIA Fact Book (and maps), The World Almanac of the U.S.A. and The World Almanac for Kids.

Windows on Maine

Windows on Maine is a searchable database of video programs and clips, and other primary and secondary digital resources, from Maine collections, made freely available via broadband and wireless connections. It features multimedia resources including selections from Fogler Library’s Special Collections and the Maine Folk Life Center at the University of Maine, Northeast Historic Film, the Maine State Archives, the Maine Historical; Society, and the Maine Public Broadcasting Network.

Ben's Guide to US Government for Kids

Ben's Guide to U.S. Government for Kids provides learning tools for K-12 students, parents, and teachers. These resources will teach how our government works, the use of the primary source materials of GPO Access, and how one can use GPO Access to carry out their civic responsibilities.

Funk and Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia

Provides over 25,000 encyclopedic entries. Searchable by subject or keywords within the entry.

Global Reference Center

*Britannica's Global Reference Center provides comprehensive online content in a variety of global languages, including Japanese, Korean, Chinese, French, and Spanish. It also includes Enciclopedia Juvenil, a Spanish elementary encyclopedia, images, videos, and learning materials for younger learners.

Health Source: Consumer Edition

Health topics including the medical sciences, psychology, food sciences and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine, health care law and general health.

Maine Newsstand

Index to and full text coverage of five Maine newspapers. Database includes coverage of the Bangor Daily News (12/3/92-present), the Kennebec Journal (Augusta) (6/11/93-present), the Portland Press Herald (10/30/95-present), Lewiston Sun Journal (2006-present) and the Central Maine Morning Sentinel (Waterville) (8/12/93-present).
