American FactFinder is your source for population, housing, economic, and geographic information. The Census Bureau conducts nearly one hundred surveys and censuses every year. Among other surveys it provides information from the Decennial Census, the American Community Survey, and the Economic Census.

Ancestry Library Edition (in-library use)

Ancestry® Library Edition is a history and genealogy resource that includes more than 7,000 databases with billions of historical records on individuals, families, and places. Sources include censuses, vital records (birth, death, marriage), immigration records, family histories, military records, court and legal documents, directories, photos, and maps. Countries for which data is available include the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, China, and many more.

Note: Some sources and some functionality available via a personal subscription to AncestryPlus are not available in the Ancestry Library Edition. Publisher permissions allow in-building use of Ancestry at Maine public libraries that have registered for access, as well as authenticated access for Maine college and university libraries via their web sites.

GeoRef

Produced by the American Geological Institute covering subjects such as mineralogy and crystallography, general mineralogy, mineralogy of silicates, and mineralogy of non-silicates in journal articles, books, maps, conference papers, reports, and theses. Geology of North America is covered from 1785 to the present, and geology of the world is covered from 1933 to the present.

GeoRef In Process

GeoRef In Process contains records that are in the process of being indexed prior to their integration in the main GeoRef database. The majority of the records originate from non-English language literature that was not necessarily published recently. GeoRef In Process does NOT contain the most current records. When the GeoRef indexers complete the editing and indexing of an In Process record, then the record will appear in the next GeoRef monthly update. In Process records may lack a few fields or contain minimal data in some fields. All areas of geoscience are covered, and it is recommended that you select both the GeoRef and GeoRef In Process to perform the most comprehensive search.

GeoRef Preview Database

This database contains new, unedited references that are being prepared for addition to the GeoRef database, one of the premier geological literature databases. A keyword search can be performed on all fields at once, or you may choose to search directly on titles, authors, dates, or source information. There are no abstracts. Once a record has been added to GeoRef, the record is purged from this database. Updated weekly.

Global Newsstream

Global Newsstream enables users to search and read full-text for the most recent global news content, as well as archives which stretch back into the 1980s. It features content from more than 2,000 newspapers, newswires, and news sites, and represents one of the largest collections of news from the US, Canada, Europe, Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Australia. All titles are cross-searchable on the ProQuest platform allowing researchers easy access to multiple perspectives, resources, and languages on the topic they are researching.

Google Scholar

Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. Within it you can search across many academic disciplines and sources including articles, theses, books, and court opinions, from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities and other web sites.

GreenFILE

GreenFILE provides information on all aspects of human impact to the environment, including such subjects as global climate change, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and recycling. Its collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles includes content on the environmental effects of individuals, corporations and local/national governments.

GREENR

The Global Reference on the Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources focuses on the physical, social, and economic aspects of environmental issues. Topic, organization, and country portals form research centers around issues covering energy systems, health care, agriculture, climate change, population, and economic development. Content includes authoritative analyses, 1,000+ full-text academic journals and magazines, case studies, legislation, conference proceedings, primary source documents, statistics, and rich multimedia.
